Smart city - IoT applications

A smart city is an urban area that uses different types of electronic data collection sensors to supply information which is used to manage assets and resources efficiently. This includes data collected by several types of devices and that is processed and analyzed to monitor and manage traffic and transportation systems, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, law enforcement, information systems, schools, libraries, hospitals, and other community services.

IDEAS ENGINEERING products perfectly fit in the smart city concept and can be fully and easily integrated with a variety of IoT ( Internet of things ) sensors. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these things to connect and exchange data, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, resulting in efficiency improvements, economic benefits, and reduced human exertions.

Our lighting products, in particular, can be upgraded to IoT devices at little cost by the integration of several radio sensors which will be able to collect and exchange data with other IoT devices. Examples of data typology that can be collected, monitored, controlled and exchanged with this kind of devices are relative to:

  • Smart parking ( sensors might give information regarding spaces available, guide customers to them and keep track of the time they are parked ) ;

  • Motion detection ( Lighting points can be dimmed basing on the motion the sensors pick up);

  • Traffic monitoring;

  • Weather and air quality monitoring;

  • Luminosity control;

  • Noise urban maps

      and many others.
